I realize that Sailboat Owners is a forum and not a club but I think it would be cool if the Chandlery offered a pennant for members of this forum. It would make it easier to spot each other. I think that this is the best forum around and would be proud to fly one in hopes of meeting some of you other characters out on the water. Designing one might even make a good winter contest to help pass the time. Just a thought, Frank

Absolutely a great idea... here's the question

We've talked about doing that as long as we've been doing this... but we always run into the same obstacle. Good, double-sided applique pennants are expensive. Even in quantity they're well over $20 and that was a few years back. The cheap method is one-sided screen printing, but it doesn't last very long and it's... well, it's printed on just one side. If we made a bunch, what do you think would be a fair price for them? And could you live with printed pennants or are you willing to go the extra mile for applique? Thanks for your input! ph.

I'd be willing to go the extra money to make it

look nice. Try a survey and take preorders.

I've designed and made a bunch from time to time

You can print 2 sides provided the design is a "mirrored reverse" This way, if it gets backlit, it won't look funny with show through. For example, certain letters work better than others. A, M, W, T, I etc. R, G, etc don't work as well. Same goes for a design. Screen printed burgees can be made of lighter weight material and will fly in even a slight breeze. Appliqued or sewn burgees tend to be of a much heavier weight. They will last longer but usually need a pretty stiff breeze to get them to flutter straight. My avatar is an example of one of my personal burgees. Works looking at it from either side. Hope this helps a little.

The ad exec in me can't resist...

A suggestion could be to link our burgees to a cause to which some of the proceeds would go to. "Sailboat Owners" in support of....Cancer, clean seas etc. etc. We can enjoy the commaraderie of our passion and do some good at the same time. Kick it around...

I Vote It Be Done

I am all in favor of the idea and would quickly buy one and proudly always fly it when off the dock. I particularly like the applique idea and would have no hesitation paying $25-$30. I also endorse jackhartjr who suggests selling only to those registered on this site. So - Phil I hope you make this happen.

Phil, send me one!

You know I love youse (Pittsburgh accent) guys! I would fly a SailboatOwners Flag over my club flag! Youse guys have been the best and the people here are the mix that makes it happen! Phil, You had an insite to provided good info to many different boat owners! I have been here since 1996. People like Justin and Don Evans blessed this forum with good honest and founded info. Since then you have the boat man Fred that has developed the Ficcarra/Hunter and the rejuvenating ability of Ross, 10 years project. The sound advice from the left coast with Don, and people like Rick. Not to slight others.... Peggie! What would this forum be without the odor free Peggie! What a bonus! Heck, send us all hats, White hats, we could use them! Youse guys are marvelous! I would make it a package at $ 35 to $45 for the pennant and hat. Ok, an add for the second hat. If I have one the wife will want one... The hats should be by the boat. O'Day, Hunter, MAC, etc..... There is and always has been good info here. I miss the Photo forum! We got free stuff! Thanks for your enduring and wise developement of this site! ok, Back to work, tech is changing and you don't have time to listen to this bable, you need to keep up! Love youse guys! r.w.landau

And,.... what about an Internet symbol too

Caguy - great idea you came up with! Phil - what about a symbol for the web site? When I look at my "History" or "Bookmarks" there are a lot of web sites like CNN.com, Craig'sList, Yahoo mail, etc. have a unique symbol but SailboatOwners just has a generic symbol. Who knows, maybe the two (pennant and symbol) could be coordinated a bit?

Count on me too

This sight has saved me much more money than a $25 pennant. I'd be happy to show my support by purchasing one. I would prefer a higher quality product over something that will only last a year or two. Jeff Morrison 1993 H33.5 S/V Gail Force

I'm always promoting the HOW to other boaters. What better way to show it. Jim

I like Jack's suggestion and would pay extra to link it to a cause. :) I also like the hat idea.

I already have a hat, too!

Great hand-out 5 years ago at our first rendezvous. Had HunterOwners.com as our first sponsor. I don't have any leftovers, sorry.

I'm most certainly in....

I would love to have the ability to recognize others on this forum...I would happily pay any going rate. I was looking into getting a pennant made for my boat, and if memory serves...I think that it was around the 40.00 (cdn) mark. Great Idea!!!

Not trying to 'diss' Jack Hunter's idea...

...however the part about tying this to a 'cause' or 'charity' doesn't turn me on. I for one am 'Charitied' (Is that a word?) out! Don't get me wrong, I support a lot of causes, I don't need, nor can afford too many more! Again, not trying for any discord here, just stating my opinion. Jack Hart PS...by the way, it may be the only flag I fly...I don't think we have a "Hickory Yaght Club" here! LOL
