As a coating on decks etc... An article in "Good Old Boat" extoles its virtues. Sounds easy & GOOD. My kinda stuff... Anyone with experience, pro/con? Roger

When in Slidell...

There was a sailboat that had a penetrol treatment once a year for many many years. His boat was about 25 years old and the finish always made the boat look much newer. The pure white hull now has a slight ambering to the color but if you didnt know better, you would think that that was the original color. I jhave comsidered it a few times but never actually did.

I have used this with good results. You have to be sure your hull is clean. What it appears to do on the fiberglass hull is to "soak" in to the glass and form a coating on it. It is somewhat shiney but looks good. However, the best results I have had is with the "new glass" or Poly Glow type products. (I think they are all the same) I Have used them with very good results. People have come over to me in the "Boatyard" and asked "what are you doing? That looks great" You again have to really clean the Hull and then it takes 3 or 4 coats to really bring on the shine. I think this stuff bonds with the glass to form a clear shiney coating. A regular bottle was plenty to do a 30 foot sailboat.

Just pray...

Just pray you never damage the deck and need to repair it. Penetrol soaks into the pores and is almost as hard a silicone to remove making future repairs almost impossible for good adhesion...

There's a product similar to Polyglow

that is in regular grocery stores at regular grocery store prices. Folks on the Catalina 27 list used to mention it. Anybody know what the brand name is, or how to identify a Polyglow type product by description?
