Has anyone ever used Penetrol on faded fiberglass? What were the results? We've used the "reconditioning kits" that you apply and let dry but they just don't hold up well in our climate. The uv's are really intense. The cabin part of our boat is very dull and faded and I want to give it some kind of protection. I heard that Penetrol works well but we can't buy it here in Cancun. Any alternative products?

Try Island Girl products

They are sold on this site in the chandlery. I haven't tried them yet (I will soon!), but if the reviews are any indication, the stuff works amazingly well. Let me know how it goes... Trevor

Island Girl for sure

Hi Roger, Island Girl Products make some of the best I have seen. I bought one of their kits when I purchased my new Catalina 22 and they work better than I expected. I also helped a friend renew his deck with one of their products and I was really amazed at how well it works and how durable it is. California puts off some pretty good UV rays too especially here in the Valley, not to mention the air quality isn't always the best and the smog I'm sure doesn't do the gelcoat any favors. So if you can get your hands on their products do so. As far as the penetrol is concerned, I would talk to a glass man. Happy sailing :) Dave LaPere

Teflon Polish

Our 1975 Catalina 22's hull and cabin was rather dull when purchased a few years ago. We used a Teflon Polish wax every year since and have been quite pleased with the shiny results. West Marine carries a couple of brands. Good Sailing, Dick
