I have a 1983 Hunter 34. I lost one of the two pelican clips on the starboard side. From the remaining one, I know it is a reverse thread, but I do not know the thread size. It is either 1/4" or 5/16". I ve checked the specs and can't find out the size. I found a couple on eBay, but can't replace without knowing the size. Can anyone help?

You can determine the size of the hook by counting the number of threads per inch on the stud. Take a ruler and line it up with one groove and count how many grooves there are over a 1/4" length then multiply by 4. The 5/16 thread will have 24 threads per inch (tpi). The 1/4" thread will have 28 tpi. You can count also how many grooves in a full inch, but in my case I always lose count trying to see and count that far. Good luck.

Grr I lost one of the original Pelican Clips off my 1984 Hunter 31 the other day. Fell off and straight into the water in my slip. Not that easy finding a replacement, but this thread is extremely helpful. Looking at replacing with a Johnson Hardware Pelican Clip found in another thread. Also am going at low tide and seeing if I can see it and trying to fish it out before i get a new one. Its not very deep when low, and if its sunny out I may just be able to see it if its not buried itself.

Update: Ended up having a diver in the water to clear a badly fouled prop, and asked him to look for my dropped pelican hook, and he found it!! That saved me a hassle and about $60CDN. Yay!
