To cut a long story short I have a 1999 310 with a poly ( I think ) bow freshwater tank. Original sender wrong length so replaced with one with larger thread to screw into top of tank. I filed out the thread, put in new one, fitted plywood flange round it and screwed this to the strengthened top of tank after liberally applying "Instant Gasket". Water still pours out round sender when boat moving at sea. how do I fix this without taking a new boat apart to get a new tank in? Would 5200 grip to the tank material?

Oh dear...well at least it's only water...

Don't even THINK of trying 5200! It won't bond--nothing bonds to polyethylene (which is why Instant Gasket doesn't work), but it will make a hell of mess. Try wrapping the threads of the sender with plenty of teflon tape. If that doesn't seal around it, make a real rubber gasket--which must fit VERY tightly around the sender--to put under the plywood. You filed out the hole too much, didn't you? :) Next time you decide you need a larger hole in the tank, just use a same diameter self-tapping screw...to preserve the threads. Might not hurt to ask questions BEFORE you do anything else to boat, either. :)

Thanks Peggy

You have suitably chastised me. I quite like it, actually. Any chance of getting together?

Nothing bonds to poly tanks

If nothing bonds to poly tanks, then how do the accugauge sensors stay attached? Just curious Warren

If try to peel the AcuGage sensors off..

you'll find that they'll come off relatively easily. Pour water on 'em, and they'll lift without much effort if the water can get under 'em. If the tank were to crack under 'em, the tank would leak. There's a big difference between "sticking to" and "bonding with"...and a crack or hole requires a permanent bond.

Acugage on poly

With the tape we include 3M 4693. This is used as a sealer to keep the foil from peeling off. If it were a really wet area you can spray 3m apray 90 over the top of the foil. Any non conductive sealer can be used. Dennis Ferriello Snake River Electronics
