Peggy, sorry if this has been asked before, the search function doesn't work that well here. You mentioned in the fall about adding white vinegar to the flush when leaving the boat for a couple of days unused to prevent calicum build up. A friend told me that vinegar will destroy the gaskets. Is there any truth to this? Thanks

Yes and no

A cupful or two of white vinegar flushed all the way through the discharge line won't harm anything in the toilet. However, soft rubber left to soak in vinegar will swell up and distort. So leaving vinegar sitting in the bowl will destroy the joker valve--but doesn't accomplishing anything positive--and unless completely flushed through the pump could damage the soft rubber parts in the toilet. So if you pump enough times in the dry mode to move a cupful or two of white vinegar ALL the way through the discharge hose...then switch to wet for just one pump--just enough to bring in a little water to rinse it out of the pump--you won't have any problems.

Thanks, another question

Would giving the head a good flush with fresh water acheive the same thing (prevent calicum)? I use Oderlos Nitrate compound in the holding tank, will vinegar effect this treatment? Thanks again!

The answer to both questions is no.

Clean water dosn't dissolve sea water or any other minerals...white vinegar does. But clean water does rinse the waste out the hose, so...rinse out the hose, then follow the water with the vinegar. Vinegar is compatible with both K.O. and Odorlo...no problems.
