I am relatively new boat owner. Last year was first year with 1984 Hunter31. Long story short - Her fiberglass deck is shedding. Discussed with previous owner, and he applied a clear coat to deck a year before I purchased her. The clear coat has turned yellow and that is what's peeling. I need to find best way to remove the existing clear coat, and then do whatever is required to obtain shine. In cleaning the interior, I noticed mineral spirits and a razor window scraper removes gunk residue without any damage. This would take forever to do same to deck. Some does peel readily from razor blade but not all. In using penetrol as paint additive unrelated to this, I noted can says it can be used to clean fiberglass by applying, letting set for 3-5 minutes, then wiping off. Before I attempted that I thought it best to seek advice. I don't care how much effort it takes to do whatever is required, I just want to make sure the job gets done right, with no damage to her.
