Pedestal

I have a 79 Catalina with a pedestal steering system which I am trying to upgrade, there are no manufacturers markings on the unit. The only marks are the letters J D with an anchor symbol between the two letters on the Gear Selector and Throttle controls. Does anyone have any clues about the maker of this system.Thanks

Most likely an Edson.

I bought my 1984 C30 last year, so I am new to Catalinas. My pedistal still has the Edson sticker. When I had it surveyed, the surveyor said I needed to replace the throttle and transmission cables, previous owner said he adjusted them stiff for safety. I was going to change them out and found it was the delrin bushing at the levers. Got replacements from Edson and now they work like new. Edson was very helpful. The levers should have numbers stamped into them. If they do, give Edson a call or e-mail and they will be able to tell you if your pedistal is an Edson.
