Steve, I've only had to adjust mine once in 18
years. The compass bulb didn't last that long. Most folks that use the clamp method, don't know about the setscrew. The clamp puts pressure on the cable via its' wall. That causes point loading and wear, jamming and pre-mature failure. Maybe that's why the Yanmar certified mechanic recommends them. Job security. I said 'maybe'.

Ed, I need a snap ring too. I'm going to check out Steves' link. Ah, Steve, is that link your certified mechanic?

P.S. I checked Steves' link. (Steve, COOL!) Here is the part that should work. It's stainless.http://www.mcmaster.com/asp/DisplCtlgPage.asp?ReqTyp=CATALOG&CtlgPgNbr=3052&CtlgEdition=&RelatedCtlgPgs=3050,3051,3052,3053,3054&sesnextrep=409254891633947.That link had a screen width command that just freaked out my browser. I deleted that part. The part number of the Stainless eclip that is metric, (13mm=1/2") that should work, is 98317A237P.S.2. Ed I just realized you are looking for the snap ring on the steering shaft. I was looking for the engine control shaft snap rings. The one you want is there too. It's on the previous page. I'm not sure of the size you need.
