Pedestal Control Cables

I was told that I should have both cables replaced. (Speed and Forward/Reverse). I have a 1995 30 and need to know the following.
1. has anyone done this and is it a big job.
2. Has anyone had this done and what was the cost.

I have a '93 30 - My engine mechanic has never suggested changing the cables -- simply lubricated the transmission cable. DON'T lube the speed control cable or it won't hold position.

Yes, I have replaced on my 1989 C30. Not hard. About $120 for each cable if I recall.

My boat is a 1976 and had pedestal steering installed by a previous owner. I put the engine controls on the pedestal myself. I had to buy a new, longer throttle cable, which wasn't too expensive. It wasn't hard to do, either. The hardest part was installing the double cable clamp that holds both cables secure inside the pedestal base. Other than that, no problem!
