PEARSON PACKET 18 OVERNIGHTER WISCONSIN
I

WOULD LIKE TO CORRESPOND AS THERE WERE ONLY 16 OR MAYBE 20 MADE WITH CABINS........I HAVE MADE MY CENTERBOARD SO IT CAN BE PULLED UP EASY BY HAND AND NOT THAT AWKWARD WINCH SYTEM.........ALSO FOUND A FLAW IN THE LAY UP WHERE THERE WAS A PINHOLE LEAK NEAR THE CENTERBOARD AND TOOK THE PARTITION OUT OF CABIN AND MADE A SIMPLE ARCH WAY THAT OPENED UP THE CABIN SO WHEN YOU PUT THE FILL IN BOARDS IN AND BACK REST FILLERS IT MAKES A BIG DOUBLE BED FOR THE NIGHT.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME PHOTOS OF YOUR PACKET
FAIR WINDS...........JOHN AND PAL/LUCY

i Was Told By A Builder That The Cabin Top Is Built So Strong And With Such A Great Curve In It That You Do Not Need Those Bulk Heads
i Took Mine Out And Epoxied In An Arch In With About An Inch And A Half Thick Wood Sandwiched In And Going Right From Side To Side And Where The Top Of The Bulkheads Were.............i Have A Portable Pole I Can Insert But Is Really Not Needed As It Is Plenty Strong And There Is No Flexing Under Load...........and It Really Opens Up The Cabin And Gives The Feeling Of Much More Space.
the Centerboard That Pearson Installed Was More Of An Afterthought............and Is Awkward And Dangerous In My Opinion.
especially If You Need To Operate It When You Are Heeled Over And The Winch Is On The Leeward Side......
i Lightened Up My Board By Taking Out Just Enough Lead From The Board Which Is Made Of 2 Pieces Of 3/4 Inch Marine Plywood And Glassed Over...............there Is A Round Cut Out In The Board Where They Poured Lead In ...........i Took All The Lead Out And Cut The Lead Into Pieces..........then Took The Board Into The Water And Held It Vertically........and In The Same Way And Attitude That It Sat In The Trunk............then Added Pieces Of Lead In A Plastic Bag On Top Of The Board Til It Sank But Not Too Much That I Would Need That Damn Winch...............then Melted That Lead In A Old Sauce Pan And Poured It Back In The Hole Cut Out Of The Board And Glassed Over It..................
the Rest Of The Lead I Poured Into The Bilge At The Very Bottom Of The Centerboard Trunk...............then I Glassed A Pvc Tube Into The Cockpit Floor With A Light Line Attatched To The Top Of The Board With A Small Cleat To Hold It Up............i Can Now Pull The Board Up With One Hand................very Much More Funner
my Phone Is 787 409 9558..........give Me A Call Sometime Or Icould Call You?
good Boating..................from John And Lil Pal Lucy
