I need to hook up a spinnaker bail at the top of my mast. I have a Pearson 33 1987. Has anybody done this?

I did on my '85 H34. It is about a foot below the top. I drilled the two holes and mounted it with a bolt long enough to go completely through the mast. It is for a block to run my cruising spinnaker halyard and fly it inside the forestay. Made the shorthanded handling of that sail easier.

Hope this is what you are referring to. Mine was actually a boom bail.

Don't know for sure about your boat but my 1987 Pearson 31-2 has an Isomat mast (you can tell fairly easily if the mast has an integral spinnaker car track molded into the forward end of the extrusion of the mast). If yours is Isomat, check out RigRite.com (looks like Pearson 33-2 came stock with an NG-60 Isomat Mast - http://www.rigrite.com/Spars/Isomat_Spars/Isomat_Masts/NG60_mast.html).

Why am I dwelling on this Isomat "issue"? Because there is actually an Isomat-specific stainless spinnaker crane plate that can be purchased at Rigrite (NG2-2) that might be the best-fitting/designed solution for your needs. The crane plate bolts to the masthead and then you can hang one or two blocks for spinnaker halyard(s) off the forward corner(s) and away from the headstay, jib halyard, etc. Could perhaps be more expensive and potentially require a little more masthead work to install than just mounting a bail and block but it is a bit more "elegant" and designed specifically for what you're trying to do. Just wanted you to know about this option, too. Best of luck - get that spinnaker flying!!
