This is a question for Pearson 303 owners. I am replacing my thru hull depth sounder transducer. Here's the question there is an access panel in the v berth soul were the transducer is located however my transducer is located about 2" under the v berth soul. I could not remove it or service it without cutting the floor or cutting the transducer. I think whoever installed the transducer drilled the hole in the wrong place it needed to be drilled 3" further back. how about you other Pearson 303 owners is you transducer directly under the access panel?

Sounds like it is slightly out of place. Ours is under the opening. We upgraded to a chart plotter/depth unit a couple of years ago. We installed the transducer inside the hull in thickened epoxy ("shoot through the hull" installation). It works find and didn't require a new hole. We left the old transducer in place. If you go this route, there is lots of info on the net. I've heard of people using epoxy, silicone or a piece of PVC pipe glued to the hull that holds the transducer in a mineral oil bath. This approach works because we have a solid hull.

Thanks for the input. I thought the transducer was in the wrong place. We are upgrading to a TackTick system so we will use the existing hole in the hull and install the new tri transducer, speed, temp and depth.

Do you anticipate the new transducer fitting the same hole, or will you need to modify it (smaller or larger)? We would like to upgrade our speed log, but I hate the idea of doing surgery.

The new thru hull is the same 2" diameter, I have removed the old Datamarine transducer and thru hull and am installing the new transducer this weekend. I had to perform surgery on the v-berth floor ouch but it looks good and clean and I made a wood cap for the new hole. I love my multi-tool and roto-zip! They made the job fairly easy.

Just be sure to check that the old thru hull is properly bedded. If from an older DM installed in the early 80's (sorry, but I forgot the year of your boat) it might be less than sturdy. I recently removed an old DM knot meter wheel, and the thru hull practically fell out.

Good luck on your refit!
