Pearson PEARSON 30 MIAMI
Hi all

My P30 has terrible rudder slop, which I need to attend to.

I am at a loss in finding a "capable" person to do this repair. It seems like everybody and their brother can do the job but I just dont get the fuzzies with anybody.
Hey....this is Miami, what can I say !!!
So, if anybody has had to do this repair and can recommend somebody here in Miami, I would really appreciate it.
Looking forward to any suggestions.

Tanks

Rudder slop

I cant recommend anyone in Miami but its a pretty simple repair. Whats happened here is the bushing that holds the rudder in place in the tube has
worn down or the original aluminum rudder post has worn down from years of use. I have a pearson 26W with the same rudder and post. I had the same problem about 5 years ago. Get somone to unbolt the collar and drop the rudder out of the tube for inspection. If the boat is on stands your going to have to have a pit dug under the boat so the post will clear the tube before the rudder hits ground. If its on a cradle you can jack it up to get the rudder to clear. Be careful it weights 85 lbs. After you get the rudder off check the bushing its probably worn out. If so you can get a replacement from Rudy at D&R marine Assonet MA. Check the post itself to see if its worn down Thats what was wrong with mine. Thats a simple fix. Just have some fiberglass wrapped around the post to snug it up. Thats what mine needed. Been ok now for 6 seasons One more thing check the rudder post very carefully once its out. If its worn through your going to have to get a new rudder D&R has the original pearson mold A new original mold rudder and post was about $1500 lasty time I checked it comes with a stainless steel rudder post
