I've got an older Nissan 5hp standard shaft I was going to use, but I've not had the chance to mount it and see if it will get to the water. Do you have to use a 20" long shaft or will a 15" standard shaft reach?

We're in a lake with no current, and little wave action.

Nobody had an opinion, so we tried it. It will work in calm water but wouldn't try it with waves. I'm gonna need a 20" shaft that would be just right.

Be VERY careful with a long shaft

There is a very strong likelyhood a longshaft motor will hit the rudder. Check before you make a big purchase.

I agree a 25" XL shaft would probably hit the rudder. I think a 20 would be about right.

Most sailboats need a long shaft. 20" will probably work just fine on the P26 and with the curve in the trailing edge of the rudder, I bet the 25" would work too, but if the 20" will work, why buy the 25? Measure twice.
