Anyone know of any good downloads to do some of the calculations for navigation?

What Navigation

Are you looking for Celestial calcs? Range to horizon of lights of a given height? GPS waypoint management? Tide tables? Distances from lat/long point to lat/long point? Also, what type of PDA, Palm or Pocket PC?

Simple Stuff

Time Speed Distance True/Variation/Magnetic/Deviation/Compass Range from an object of a given angle with a known height That sort of stuff for the Palm OS Tides would be good but are really not an issue here

The

Tide Tool referenced by Paul Akers is awsome! I use it almost every trip. For your TVMDC calculations any calculator will work--such as the one that comes standard on most Palms. Although many schools still teach converting to True, many others now do all calculations in Magnetic--the US Power Squadron, for example. I think this is more intuitive and saves mistakes from simple arithmetic errors. For course plotting parallel rulers lined up on the magnetic circle on the chart are (in my opinion) much easier to use than plotting to True and converting. For converting the height of vertical landmarks you will need trigonometry after you calculate the angle to the object--you did correct for tides didn't you. Infinity softworks offers a powerful trig capable package for the Palm called "Power One Personal" Check it out at www.infinitysw.com/palm. It should be noted that the calculation can be made from the appropriate "Bowditch" tables as well and may be easier to use.
