In their latest generation of 35-36' boats Beneteau and Catalina have gone to designs that have a capsize screen index above 2.0, which is said to be the highest level recommended for blue water sailing. Are those boats in fact dangerous to sail far offshore, or have the manufacturers compensated for the wide eam in those boats by locating the ballast extra low? More to the point, if one of those boats is rolled by a big wave, will it pop up again?
