well I just bought a 1992 passage 42 The previous owner took very good care of the boat but I noticed a leak dripping from the joint where the deck meets the hull in the aft port side stateroom. I guess this is a hull to deck leak along the toerail. do I need to remove the toerail and rebed entirelength of boat, tighten all bolts, or can I remove bolt one at a time shoot caulk in bolt hole and retighten?

Tighten

I would just try and tighten the bolts. That may well do it.

Check the Toe Rail End

Where the rail ends and meets fiberglass, just in front of the quarter lockers, there may be a gap. There was a gap on ours, it was hard to see from above. Use 5200 and put a bead from underneath around to the top and let harden. That ended the leaks for us.

location of quarter lockers?

Brad could you please explain where 1/4 lockers would be .Are they port side aft of the nav station? the leak did show in the master stateroom.

Quarter Lockers are . . . .

the deck lockers on the stern quarters. The rail ends just forward of them on each side. We found gaps between the rail and the fiberglass there. The rain or seawater runs down the rail and then seaps into the boat at the point where the gap between the rail and the fiberglass is, mainly underneath, so it is a little hard to see from above. We also found water could run through the hatch lock of the starboard quarter locker. On our boat that is where the LP gas tank is, but you boat probably has the complete locker on the starboard side just like ours is on the port side. The newer boats were fitted with an insert for LPG, and it tended to leak. But 5200 fixes all of this.
