passage 42 packing gland

can anyone tell me how to work on the packing gland of my 1992 passage 42? I have a generator sitting over top of the 62hp Yanmar and I can not seem to work on this gland with only one hand access. Do I need two people to do this job? Thanks

Remove Lower Battery

I replaced mine with a PSS dripless a few years back. If you remove the lower battery it will give you all the room you need. I also removed the cross piece bar but plan to do something else to beef up the upper shelf before we go offshore.

packing gland thanks

Thanks I just did not want to get into lots of parts removal if their was a simple way. If battery removal is what needs to be done then so be it.
