First, what is PEX? Some new type of water hose or piping system? Just curious, as I'm always open to improving the system to deal with the accumulation of the white stuff that clogs the outlets.
I accessed the midship water tank of my 1990 Passage 42 to put in a "Tank Tender" hose for a tank gauge, which I positioned next to the tank outlet. I didn't remove the cabinetry, settee, or water heater for that. (Although I have replaced the water heater, which is another story altogether). The way I did it was to remove some of the cabinetry inside the hanging locker which is located directly forward of the nav station and directly aft of the port salon settee. All of the things I removed came out fairly easily by removing screws and the like; I don't remember anything being glued in. I accessed the tank by removing the bottom of that hanging locker, which gives you access to the top corner of that tank, which is the corner where the output is located. I was unable to get to any other part of the tank, because that would require dissassembling permanently installed cabinetry and settees, which I was loathe to do.
That resulted in locating the Tank Tender hose in a location which only permits me to gauge the first 40 gallons of the tank's water storage capacity, so the last 30 gallons don't show up on the gauge. (The water tank has a sloping bottom to conform to the hull shape, so the corner that is accessible doesn't quite get to the lowest point of the tank). I would love to rectify that, but I suspect that relocating the Tank Tender hose would require destructive action.
By the way, when I find that the "white stuff" accumulation clogs the output, I screw a short hose onto a fitting I have located next to the water tank filters and just blow into it. That dislodges any such clogging and is very easy to do.
IF anybody finds a non-destructive way to access that water tank, I'd LOVE to hear about it.
