Hunter Passage 42 Whitehall
Hi: The canvas dodger on my 1994 Passage 42 has disintegrated. I tried contacting Hunter to see who/where they were made, but could only find information on the bimini - nothing on the dodger. Is (was) there a standard pattern for dodgers and biminis for the Passage 42, or were they all custom made? Seems to me that if someone out there still has the original dodger & bimini patterns, I would ultimately get a better fit and (hopefully) lower price than with a custom installer. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks! Michigan Moses

Original might not be factory

Frequently the "OEM" dodger is added by the dealer and built by a local source. Less expensive for them, easier to ship, no installation hassle. It's a reach, but you might try to track the boat back to the original sales dealer and see what you can find.

Our 1991 dodger and bimini have a year or so life...

left. I'll use the original frame when it comes time to replace the canvas. Most any quality canvas shop can fit new canvas to the old frame with good results. Terry

Dodger Customization

I wholeheartedly recommend Island Canvas in Toronto. They do amazing work, had three boats that they have done installations on.

Canvas Work

I bought a new Bimini for our H30 two years ago from Peerless Canvas in St Joseph. Paul, the owner does beautiful work, he comes out to measure, fabricates the framework (if needed,) makes and installs the finished product. Problem is he will not travel north past South Haven. I do not think his service to be unique. I suggest you call local sailboat sales outlets with good reputations ala Irish Boat Shop, Torressens, Eldean Shipyard, and ask them for the names - numbers of local canvas shops they use. When I bought mine, I looked on this site at the Chandellery, Island Canvas, City Island, NY, and decided I did not want to spend this kind of money based on my measurements and then have to deal with the problems. If you are into sailmaking or upholstery I'm sure a DIY project is doable. I hope to run across you this summer. We will be travelling north again to the North Channel. Stopped in Whitehall twice last summer at Moxie Marine. We would like to see your boat, as a sister might be something we would want to move up to from our trusty H30.

Canvas Work

Hello Jeff: Thanks for your input. Due to low water levels at White Lake, we'll be moving our slip to the Harbour Towne Marina this coming season. Look us up if you're in the area. Marty (Swept Away)
