Hello I have an older sailboat and I am really a beginner. Last weekend I stepped on a cap and it cracked. I think it may be a bilge/balast cap. Can this be replaced? Thanks

Hi Joe, Thanks for responding. On the floor of the boat...the deck there are 2 screw in round caps that I remove to bilge out the boat. I broke one of the screw in caps and have no idea what they are called or where I would purchase them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary

They could be deck plates

I'm wondering if they are deck plates? I'm not too familiar with O'Day daysailers, but it sounds to me like a previous owner may have installed these himself. I may be wrong though. Does it look anything like the one in this picture? I installed this Beckson Deck plate in the center of my inside transom a couple of years ago to gain access to my self-bailing hose and wiring Etc.

Here are the inspection ports on my boat
As a fellow DS II owner, I think I know what you are talking about. the 2 deckplates/inspection ports located at the forward end of the cockpit sole, used to access the bilge under the cockpit of the DS II as well as to access the pivot bolt on 1971-79 models. I will include a picture of this area on my boat. They are standard 4" deckplates, original may have been Beckson, but more likely was another brand. I bought a pair of Beckson 4" screw-in ports from Rudy at D&R, I did need to slightly enlarge the holes in the deck to get them to fit (carefully used a rasp)but it was well worth replacing the original plates! The thread is very fine on the originals making them hard to open/close, the Beckson ports have a coarser thread and screw in/out much easier, plus they seal better.
