Parrel Beads or Tacker

Parrel Beads or TackerI am trying to rig up my asymmetrical spinnaker. I think I know exactly what to do now. My question is this: To secure the tack around the furled genoa, would you recommend using the Parrel Beads (from Neil Pryde Sails) or the Tacker (from ATN). Any experience with either of these?? Which one works better??Thanks,Don

Only used the Tacker and found it to work well.

Hello,When I used an assym on my Newport 28, I left thetack free. I used an adjustable tack line, so I couldlet the tack go higher when the wind picked up, and pulledit down when the wind got light (or was it the otherway around?).I think you need a tacker if you try to use a standardsymmetric spinnaker without a pole.Barry

The Tacker is specifically designed to be used with an A sail.

I've used both ...

I've used both - I had the ATN tacker on my old boat (5 years) and with my new boat (in my 2nd season) the parrel beads came with my a-spin from Neil Pryde so I'm just using them.They both let you adjust the tack up and down along the furled genoa yet keep the tack centerline.You can make an argument that the ATN spreads the load out across the Genoa a little more and the parrel beads are a little easier to move up and down as you adjust the tack.In practice, I found that I had to go forward and push or pull both to adjust the tack. I think it's a toss up - I was happy with both and since the parrel beads came with my new sail it's not worth switching (I also believe the parrel beads are less money).Additional note - On my old boat I also had the ATN sock and now I have the one that came from Neil Pryde - again it's a toss up. I believe I got a good deal on the package from Neil Pryde and would probably do that again.Mike Beller

Would it be a good idea to use it on the forestay,

to keep the asymmetrical somewhat centered? I especially like the idea of being able to blow the tack with a snatch shackle.Frank
