Does anyone know if a sailing club exists at Paris Landing Marina (Tennessee)?

Bud?

You from around there? There was not but about a dozen sailboats there the last time I was through there. As Joe mentioned there is an association at Kentucky Lake and also one at Pickwick, the PSCA. As far as I know, there is none at Paris.

Kentucky Lake Sailing Club

Our boat is at Lighthouse Landing at the northern tip of Kentucky Lake and we have a very active sailing club. We try to get down to Paris Landing at least once a sailing season and I have only see a handful of sailboats at the state marina. Perhaps you culd try a google search on sailing clubs on Pickwick Lake. Our sailing club organized a cruise last summer to Paris Landing and I think we will again this summer.

Joe & J.B. I bought my boat from Tim at Lighthouse Landing. I keep my boat in a marina 5 miles south of Paris Landing on the east shore. We considered keeping the boat at Lighthouse Landing when we first bought it. My wife and I both were very impressed with Lighthouse Landing. However, our home is just a few minutes from the marina where we keep our boat. I am able to sail or tinker with the boat everyday in it's current location which is great. It is about 2 hours driving time, each way, (50 lake miles) from home to Lighthouse Landing. So Lighthouse Landing did not seem like a good option. I was at Paris Landing today. There appeared to be around 25 sailboats docked at Paris Landing. I thought there may be some sort of sailing club. I would also be interested in activities that we may be able to particpate in around Kentucky Dam. Does your sailing club have a webpage or contact person?

I live about 60 miles from Paris Landing but I keep my boat at Pickwick due to the better sailing conditions and the close proximity of the ICW. I used to keep her at Green Turtle Bay as Kentucky Lake had primo sailing, better than Pickwick, but the drive was killing me. As your aware, KL is a good days drive from where you are and it's about a 3 day trip to Pickwick. Sounds like KL is your best bet. If you have any interest in finding out information about the PSCA, contact me through the O'Day owners (34) site and I'll get you the phone number of the Cruising Fleet Commadore. There is no web on them.

2005 Cruise

Just for everyone's information, we're planning a cruise of Catalina 22's and at least one (hopefully more) Hunter 26's for July 31st thru August 6th. We're planning on starting at Kenlake Marina, sail south to Paris Landing and then continue to Pebble Island Marina and then back. Last year we had eight boats (GTB to Kenlake) - and we had a great time. If any of you are interested (we call this the Heartland of America Cruise - at least in the Catalina 22 publication Mainbrace) - you can reach me at tgrass832@aol.com. Thanks for the web site. I've belonged to the PSCA for four years now and I never knew there was a site. The last time I tried to pull up PSCA, I got a car racing outfit. Live and learn!

Pickwick,Wilson,Wheeler or Kentucky??

We may semi-retire soon and are thinking of relocating. we desire access to the sea but don't want to be sweating out every hurricane season. We have trailered a boat to Ky lake several times and put in at Paris Landing SP. I like the area!!! How does it compare to Pickwick or the other lakes??? We like Wheeler and take the kayaks up there to look at the gators in summer and birds in winter. But Pickwick is closer to the ditch that leads to Mobile. Checking real estate prices Paris looks pretty good. In an "Ideal" world we would like to be able to sail around Florida and the Bahamas During the spring and early summer and retreat to an inland lake for hurricane season. We now live in Birmingham and commute to Panama City to sail. Tom

Log onto Kentucky Lake Sailing Club. There is a complete listing of the 2005 events the club is sponsoring. Hope you cn make one or more of the evnets. We are making the trip to Pickwick Lake this summer if the lake levels aren't too high for us to clear the bridges and would appreicte any information regarding anchorages and places of interest. I was there several years ago but only had a couple of days of sailing before we had to return to our home port.

As you've sailed Kentucky Lake, you already know how great the sailing is up there. Obviously, Pickwick is not as big as KL but it is fairly large. Pickwick can be tough to sail as the winds are variable and can be hard to find sometimes as there are high bluffs surrounding the main lake that play with the wind. There are numerous coves and inlets for overnight anchorages. There are four marinas, with full service and lifts at two of them. A new marina is proposed on the Tombigbee that hasn't been built yet. Lots of restaurants and a few grocery stores in the area. Real estate prices are sky high in the vicinity of the lake, however, drop off drastically the further away you get. The closest town, Counce has a paper mill. Forget it. The State Park Marina at the dam has a golf course, restaurant, and a lodge. I live 90 miles away, about a 1.5hour drive. I moved my boat to Pickwick four years ago from KL as it was closer, and my marina, Aqua Yacht, is right at the mouth of the ICW, two prime reasons why I moved there. Folks are super friendly, there are regular races if your in to it and frequent parties, even during the winter months. The winter season is fairly short and very seldom is there any icing in the marinas. If you need anything more than general information contact me via the O'Day 34 owners site and I'll see if I can help you.
