As you've sailed Kentucky Lake, you already know how great the sailing is up there.Obviously, Pickwick is not as big as KL but it is fairly large. Pickwick can be tough to sail as the winds are variable and can be hard to find sometimes as there are high bluffs surrounding the main lake that play with the wind. There are numerous coves and inlets for overnight anchorages. There are four marinas, with full service and lifts at two of them. A new marina is proposed on the Tombigbee that hasn't been built yet. Lots of restaurants and a few grocery stores in the area. Real estate prices are sky high in the vicinity of the lake, however, drop off drastically the further away you get. The closest town, Counce has a paper mill. Forget it. The State Park Marina at the dam has a golf course, restaurant, and a lodge. I live 90 miles away, about a 1.5hour drive. I moved my boat to Pickwick four years ago from KL as it was closer, and my marina, Aqua Yacht, is right at the mouth of the ICW, two prime reasons why I moved there. Folks are super friendly, there are regular races if your in to it and frequent parties, even during the winter months. The winter season is fairly short and very seldom is there any icing in the marinas.
