I have heard this is a pretty common event in boating communities. We were so pressed for time to get the boat ready we took very few pictures and the few we took at night were blurred. This is one we took while still setting up. We had a large panda that lights up on the front and a snoopy that lights up on the boom. We tried to stay with a red, white, and black color theme to go with the boat. The lights on the life lines were bright red an illuminated the side of the boat. We had lights up the front stay and back stay and they really created a Christmas tree outline with the anchor light turned on atop the mast. We powered everything with a Honda EU2000. It was a nice color scheme but it was not as over the top as some of those 50+ foot power boats had going on.

We had a blast during the parade and there we much more people on the shore than I was expecting. This boat parade has quite a following in the community. I was just happy to be a part of the event and we were quite surprised to receive a trophy for 1st place in the sailboat division. Sorry about the low quality cell phone picture, was not planning on taking one at the award ceremony and after party. Our 7 year old was beyond thrilled and the trophy sits on top of his piano at home.

Do many of you take part in this type of event? This was our first year. We are already planning for next year's lighting ideas.

We just move to Florida, join a sailing club in March of this year. I will have to say, it was nice helping other member decorate there boat during the day and be part of the parade at night was a blast for us and community to enjoy nice evening of boat. It so nice to see people enjoy nice night of beautiful boats, so I can understand where you are coming from. This was our first Christmas in warm weather. I hope we have a boat next time around to enjoy more of Christmas.

We Had No Idea

Our dock neighbor from Georgetown YB keeps her boat on the Spa Creek for the winter. She owns a slip at the end of a dock and hosts an annual holiday party for the Annapolis parade. We get to enjoy the company of our boating friends during the winter and check out the decorated boats between dinner & dessert. I was partial to the train this year, although the boat with the live band was pretty good.

- we all thought it was just a cool boat with well conceived blue crabs. We had no idea it was a weird aquatic parable about crab evolution!

I went out to West End to watch the sailboat parade last weekend. I came to the conclusion that after hearing the loud music, hoots, hollers, and general sounds of elaboration, being in the parade looked to be a lot more fun than watching it.

Maybe next year.

This was our 9th. parade of lights, unfortunately the night of the parade was the one night in the past 3 months that it poured rain, cold rain, all night. After an entire year of drought I can't really complain of the rain. Recess, if you add a big Deep Cycle battery and an inverter, you can eliminate the generator. We do this on our C27 and run about 1600 LED lights, a polar bear and a couple other things for several hours.

Cool & Congratulations Recess! I'm sure your son will treasure that trophy for a long time!

We went to the parade in Newport, Oregon, a couple weekends ago and I took pictures from the wharf. There were more power boats than sailboats but it was fun anyway.

Since our lake is drained in the fall there's been talk of a 4th of July lighted boat parade. It was a one boat parade this year.
