Hello, I don't frequent this forum, but I have enjoyed the site for several years now..... but that's neither here nor there. My father and brother have been planning a trip from Florida, Hillsboro Inlet to Freeport Grand Bahama. They left on 10/5 at 11 pm , and have not been in communication since setting sail for the Bahamas. It's now been 18 hours, and we are going out of our minds with worry. My mother, being the fair weather sailor that she is...chose to fly into Grand Bahama, and wait for their arrival, which still hasn't happened. She's been in close contact with the Harbor Master, who has tried to hail them on several occasions, to no avail. I am the sailing girl of the family...I know how it can go...and how a 4 hour cruise can turn into a 9 hour catastrophe in the blink of an eye...but....I've never been on the ocean, I can't fathom what is going on, and my sister, mother and I are panic stricken. Can any of you offer any words of encouragement...advice...prayers...ANYTHING?!?! I know there is a LOT of traffic from FL to Grand Bahama..I know they had a weather window, and I know that they are both extremely capable, and experienced sailors...I just don't know how to handle this waiting game.

???

Has it been 18 hours... or 1 month and 18 hours? It looks to be a 100 mile trip (via Micosoft streets and trips... sorry). They should be there soon. If they are experienced sailors... don't worry. Did they file a float plan?

they're fine

Yes I was holding their float plan, and awaiting word to fax it to my mother.....Thankfully I don't have to do that now.....all is well. It's funny, I posted with urging from my sister...I knew the whole time they were fine!! **wink wink** Also, I was under the impression it was to be a 10 hour trip. Upon researching for myself, which I SHOULD have done in the first place.... I got conditions, variables, yadda yadda, and drew the conclusion that things were going every so slowly

It will be 24 hours and looking at a map it looks at about 100 miles so if there traveling at 5 knots they should have arrived at about 20 hours if its a 100 miles, current will change the speed of a boat to maybe 3 knots and now you have to add more hours.
