Has anyone replaced any of the red 110V circuit LED's in the nav station panel? How did you remove them (press fit? bonded?) and what did you use for replacements. I have 2 that have burned out.

If your panel's like mine...

The LEDs are sleeved in the back by plastic/rubber. Using a needle nose pliers, you can push them out of the panel from back to front. Cut off the two wires as close to the LED as possible, because you'll need all the wire you can to attach the new LED. I looked lots but was unable to find an exact replacement. The closest thing was at Radio Shack. It was an LED with a very small flange at the light emitting end and a screw thread along the LED body. Because even with the flange the LED was too narrow to stay put in the panel, I got small SS washers, colored them black with magic marker and slipped them over the LED body. You can then reinstall the new LED and screw it in place with the included nut. You can then crimp the new LED wires to the existing panel wires from the old LED. You'll need the smallest crimps that Radio Shack sells for this part of the job. When you're done, you'll know what it's like to do brain surgery. You'll definitely want to disconnect shore power when you're doing this, and you should probably turn off all DC power to the panel as well.

Paneltronics

Barry, if your Hunter is like mine, the panel was built by Paneltronics of Hialeah Gardens, Fla. Their number is 800-833-7802. They will have the correct leds for the panel. Jim

My 1986 Hunter 34 uses a 1/2 watt incandescent

indicator made by Littlefuse Corp.I have not done it yet, but have been told by other 34 owners that the following procedure works. Hunter grouped four common leads together into one crimp connector and screwed that to the common buss. You can cut off the common lead close to the base of the old indicator. This leavs the common lead still connected in groups of 4 to the common buss. On the new indicator, put a new ring connector on one lead and a barrel connector on the other lead after putting the indicator into the hole in the panel. Screw the ring connector onto the correct circuit breaker and crimp the barrel connector to the old common lead. Let us know what fix you use and how it works. I need to replace several of my LED's also Let me know if you need the source for the 1/2 watt incadescent indicators

Info from a previous post

I do not know if your 35.5 uses the large or small indicators. My 85 H34 uses the 1/4" Littlefuse which is no longer available. Here is the post from the archives I wrote last month on this same subject. The 1/4 inch body is a press fit from the front of the panel so you have to cut off the old wires before removing the defective indicator. Hope this information helps. Happy Holidays John Check the Diameter first Submitted by John Miller on 11/22 at 12:40PM regarding General_interest The LED indicators in the Blue Sea catalog are 11/64" in Diameter. The panel on my 1985 H34 uses 1/4" diameter indicators. When the boat was built Hunter used a 1/2 watt incandescent indicator made by Littlefuse Corp. They grouped four common leads together into one crimp connector and screwed that to the common buss. I tried to buy replacement indicators this summer from Tidewater Marina in Havre’ de Grace but was told the supplier no longer carries the 1/4", 120 VAC indicator. Lauren at Tidewater spent 6 weeks working with Hunter and various electrical suppliers to identify and obtain replacement 120 VAC 1/4" diameter indicator lamps. It took a while but I now have what I need for the boat. If your marina does not have them, Tidewater’s phone number and part numbers are listed below. Thanks Lauren! I was able to get 12 VDC indicators from Tidewater to replace the defective 12 VDC ones on the panel. I cut off the common lead close to the base of the old indicator. This left the common lead still connected in groups of 4 to the common buss. On the new indicator, I put a new ring connector on one lead and a barrel connector on the other lead after putting the indicator into the hole in the panel. Screwed the ring connector onto the correct circuit breaker and crimped the barrel connector to the old common lead. The only thing extra that I needed was a temporary work lamp above the nav station because I was working in the panel and had all the power (AC & DC) shut off. Tidewater 410-939-0950 Option 4. More

Our legend was built in Aug of '89 (90 model). The LED's are about 1/8" in dia. and red in color. I haven't tried to take one out yet as I don't want to damage the panel. Thought I'd talk to those who have done replacements. The boat is in winter storage, but I should be able to get better feedback in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the ideas!
