Hi all,
I have 31 1984 and I am doing spring spruce ups. Has anyone painted the
pedestal? The base really needs some attention and I was wondering what type of paint to use. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Mark

After giving it a couple of minutes of thought came to the well intentioned conclusion and recommendation for the use of a spray paint can of gloss white Rust-Oleum. Clean the surface, mask the control levers and the compass and use a piece of cardboard as backing to contain overspray, paint and allow to dry. Really little effort and cost and will look good for an adequate period of time. Did it years ago in a previous boat and felt the end result looked good and better matched the rest of the old cockpit than a more professional job would have. It aged well and lasted for years.

I did this last year - sanded it down with Emory cloth until smooth. Then painted it with semi-gloss white spray paint - think it was rustolium but made sure it was for painting metal. Taped off the area. It turned out very nice.

I painted my topsiders last year with Brightside single part paint by Interlux. I sanded and scraped the base and rolled and tipped it. A year later it is still bight and shiny.

Did mine 4 years ago. Sanded it with and orbital sander and 120 grit. Then used lots of masking tape and covered the entire cockpit with drop cloths on a windless day. IDD god old RUSTOLEUM in a spray can. Still going strong.
