Jim, thats why its my favorite

Since I'm so landlocked up here, 1 hr. to any real lake or any chandlerys ( which might be a good thing $$$$ wise) I plan to get to Mason's once or twice a year with my "list". Yesterday I got away with only $600 and that was after my $12.50 "Boat Bucks" from last year. The service at Mason's is great, friendly and always know their stuff, they usually have whatever I need ( I don't know how many times I've gone into the big store in Midland with my wallet open ready to spend and have come out empty handed) Lori helped us last year pick out a BBQ, and didn't necessaruily point us to the most expensive but to what we suited us best. You can tell she really enjoys dealing with the people. They're having their 30 yr. anniv. party this weekend.

Jimq26, speechless for the first time? Not just me but many

others find that you are often talking through you hat. You latch onto an idea and correct or not you persist in trying to sell it when there are no buyers.

So would I be correct

jimg, so would it be appropriate, since there seems to be some confusion on what to call the jackstands/boatstands/poppits, and we don't want to confuse the newbies on here, and we want to make sure that they understand what we are talking about. So how bout we just call them the thingys that hold the boat up, when it isn't in the water. Would that work for you.

Jim !!!!

Jim, With all due respect please DON'T call me wrong when I COPIED AND PASTED YOUR WORDS VERBATIM. These words: "They're called poppits - not boat jacks (FYI)" See your exact words at "related link" and post #17:20 Please grow up. You called everyone wrong the last time and then used the term poppits this time they are apparently "boat stands"? This issue is 100% irrelevant as many, many, many yards, marine experts and marine insurance companies refer to them as Jack Stands yet nobody attempts to "jack" their boat with them. If you feel the need to quote experts please quote one who is in the marine industry and not an occupational safety consultant.. If Boat US, one of the biggest yacht insurers, and Don Casey call them Jack Stands I think it's ok for SBO members to use the term too or poppits or boat stands they all mean the same thing. I generally call them boat stands unless talking to the owner of my boat yard who calls the jack stands. You call them poppits and boat stands others, including Don Casey and Boat US call them jack stands WHO FREAKING CARES WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT WE ARE REFERRING TO.. This is not like calling your decks the "top sides"..! Please listen to Ross and drop it and try and refrain from calling others wrong when they copy and paste your words verbatim it's just not polite...

Easiest solution

In reply to the original question, there is a much easier solution that only someone coming to the problem with a truly open mind would think of: 1)Remove all stays and shrouds. 2)Get a power augur and drill a deep hole in the ground. 3)Turn the boat upside down with the mast going into the hole. This will help stabilize the boat too. 4)Paint the boat bottom, without having to bother with boat stands, jack stands, jacka___es, or anything else. 5)Lift boat and turn back over, and voila...! In fact, this is such a brilliant idea that I think I'm going to patent the technique and go into business. If anybody would like to invest with me, please contact me. For potential investors: I also hold title to the Golden Gate bridge and am willing to sell partial ownership to you also. Contact me for details.

Sooooooo

if I had Jack stand beside my boat stand and give me a hand stand with adjusting my poppit stand to paint the top sides of my hull sides on the aft side of .................. John of course you know the bottom side is the hull side ;) I'm glad I could provide the entertainment for this afternoons discussions, although I did learn something new about painting the hull side and white paint on the rudder side. ;D Only 30 days to launch and I have a lot of work to do to hit the water. Com'on global warming, its time to melt that big ice cube in Georgian Bay. I'm going stir crazy watching the snow melt. *zzz See you all on the water..... and remember, sailing is excellent stress relief..... after all it's just a boat ;D
