I own a Catalina 22 built in '77. The deck is beginning to wear badly, and I find lots of powdery gelcoat as I wash it. Should I consider painting the deck with a top-end polyurethane paint, or must the existing surface be replaced with gelcoat? Thanks for any help.

POLI-GLOW ;D ;D ;D

depending on how bad things are, you could probably get very good results with a "co-polymer" restoring product, namely Poli-Glow. www.poliglowproducts.com It is not a wax, and it lasts for several years without any maintenance. I used it on my boat 4 years ago, and it was amazing. This would be a far better approach that painting, as paint will eventually peel. Check out my web page for some pictures of the restoration project using PoliGlow(link below). Regards, Ted

Poli Glow on nonskid

Ted, Thanks for the info on Poli Glow. I used it on my boat with equally good results, but I avoided the nonskid to avoid making it slippery. With one coat on yours, did you find it slippery. Regards, Jess Precision 18

Yes . . . it was slippery

. . . but I managed to stay onboard. The pop-top was particularly slippery, even with one coat of Poli-Glow. The deck surfaces were not too bad. I will probably avoid the non-skid areas at the next re-coat. Regards, Ted
