painting the deck

I am going to be painting the deck of my boat and am wondering if I should do nonskid throughout the whole deck? Would this look weird if the whole cockpit is nonskid?

I am thinking about using the interlux interdeck paint. My sailboat is fiberglass and it would go over the original gelcoat. The boat is a 1965.

I have a similar issue going on right now with the Cal 29 about what to do as the traditional two tone deck would look great

BUT the prep to paint the smooth areas of the deck to something that would look remotely close to the gelcoat is huge

I would suggest that you take a look at Kiwi Grip. They sell it here on the sailboatowners.com website. It is easy to apply and look good too.

I think you will find that it is going to hold up better than paint.

I guess im wondering if it will look good throughout the whole deck. I plan on painting everything. If I go with kiwigrip, will it look and feel too rough?

It depends on how you apply it. There are specific direction on how to make it more or less agressive.

You can practice on some plywood to determine how you want it to look.

You can mask everything off and only put the Kiwi Grip where your current non-skid is or do the entire deck.
