As a former dealer in North Carolina, I was taught a trick on painting the metal under water more specifically the prop shaft, strut and prop. I am not sure if I had done this but thanks to a friend who owns Sailcraft in Oriental, he taught me the following:
1. Clean all metal removing any paint and lightly sand. Then wipe off with
either alcohol or acetone. Wear gloves!
2. Apply Petit Metal Primer item# 6455
3. Apply Petit Tycoat Primer Item# 6627
4. Apply hard bottom paint (not ablative)
Although the material cost is expensive for the Petit products, I never had an issue of paint coming off the prop, strut or propeller from then on. I also understand for power boats, this works great as well.
