Well I needed someinfo on painting my Catalina 27, The top deck is cracked in the cockpit on the seats, The hull above the waterline is pretty faded (white) The hull below the water line is perfect. The paint has chipped above the water line down to the original glass (tan in color). I need aome suggestions on what type of paint to use as I will be rolling it on or should I Brush it on? I must say this La Donna is a wealth of information. I am going to dremmel the cracks and fill with putty. Then paint. Now maybe La donna has an answer to this. What it a good paint for the deck and what is a good paint for the hull? La donna has saved me much agravation and many dollars. I tip my hat to you La Donna. The info you have provided me so far has been dead on and a definate time saver. Well enjoy the weekend. Thanks

Golly gee!

Sorry I missed your post earlier but my "day job" took me away from the site for awhile. I used Interlux Brightsides and it looks fantastic! BUT...we did spray it. I think if you took extra care you could do the whole roll-on/tip-off thing with equally acceptable results. What would I do differently? I think I might pick one shade off white. I chose the whitest white and boy is she bright! I get the occasional chip and the gelcoat underneath is slightly offwhite so...go with what makes you happy. I'd also make sure the putty I was using was *really* white. I bought this stuff that said white on the can but when you mixed in the catalyst, it turned light blue. NOT helpful! And, yes, it will show through so make sure it is really white!!! Would I do it again? No way in HE**! I almost had a break down. Do I like the results? HE** Yes! :) LaDonna

Go with the Interlux Brightside

I used Interlux Brightside one-part poly by brush on my 27 Cat and it lasted 3 years. I could have used 2-part and probably got more but pick an off white because the white is to bright! My next task is to take down hull blue to fiberglass.I found out my hull had 3 coats of different color gel-coats and plenty of blisters. Painting the deck is nothing compared to this!

been there done that!!

I agree with La Donna, this job is a pain in the A##. The only thing I would recommend is that you not use "putty" West System makes a great epoxy that can be mixed with a faring compound to give it body and the best part is there is a white pigment that can be added to the mix to ensure that the color is white, it sands great, and drys fast and hard. Good luck
