Nothing to stop you. Just be sure everything is clean, and all grease/oil is gone. -Paul

Purchase an ozone machine, and use it sometimes. Kills mold. Read up on them, and use in accordance to manufactures directions.

I wouldn't use bleach. Just an all purpose cleaner (soap) and water, then I would wash it "all" with TSP and a few green scrubbys. Rinse twice. Dry. Prime and paint according to directions on the cans. If it says wash it with the $25/L stuff... then do it.
I just spent $105 on 1q primer, 1q paint and 20oz wash stuff. All to do the bilge and storage areas.
I have power washed, sprayed with TSP, scrubbed with a stiff brush and Mr Clean (we look alike), and power washed (rinse). Then vacuumed all the wet out. Hope to rinse with the wash stuff and prime on the weekend. Maybe paint too, depends what it says on the cans for drying time and temp.

Just finished painting the inside of mine. Rustoleum-Oil Based Enamel does an amazing job. I used a kilz oil based primer as well. Lots of work, but great when you're done. The blue tint is from a tarp.

I am going white inside and blue on the outside. Looks like it will be KILZ first.
Got a question even though i am doing the best job sealing all possible holes WILL SOME WATER BE ACCEPTABLE INSIDE OF THE BOAT AT ANY TIME? or ventilate the best I can after every trip out?
thanks, Costy

I had a couple scouts go in with a big jug of Simple Green, then powerwashed it inside and shop-vac'd out the water. Dried for a week, then came back with a half gallon of interlux white semigloss, very happy.

Did you use any primer first? The guy before me used some cheap paint and cheap paint brush (lots of hairs stuck in the paint job from the paint brush) I finished washing the inside today (used 409) very happy with the result so I am going to wait a week for drying and then I am going to go with Rustoleum marine grade (it is only $12 @ Lowes) I never heard of interlux do not know where to get that.
very happy today I found BUTYL TAPE @ some glass shop so tomorrow the hardware is coming off for resetting with the tape.

thanks guys, Costy

I am also repainting...

I have been scrapping and sanding the adhesive from the carpet that was pasted to the cabin roof. It looks like the carpet may have sagged in the past b/c on the port side there was probably a whole tube of liquid nail that had to be removed. I am sanding to remove the adhesive, but in some spots it seems like I am just mashing the adhesive down instead of removing it... I plan scrapping and sanding more then applying Kilz original oil based primer to the cabin top. If the cabin roof surface is smooth (including the mashed adhesive) can I prime, or should I keep scrapping and sanding?

Scrubbed my inside with simple green and a green scuff pad, hosed it off, let it dry, primed with a good exterior oil based primer then top coated with an exterior oil paint. I painted on bright, sunny, warm days (it was hot inside) and I think it helped to "bake" the paint on. Its been 3 years and no cracks, chips or flaking off. My wife picked the yellow color, and at first I was scared, but it really looks good and gives you a warm, cheery feeling when below.

Heat gun with a scraper... the Liquid Nails will peel right off..This is LN around the window trim used to hold "rope" trim on...

No primer, just a good cleaning.

Interlux is available from several marine outlets, I got mine from Baconsails.

The mold has to go first. I have used exterior porch paint, I think for a trailer boat that is Ok.

When we got our Mac the interior was dry but yucky. Sanded throughly (WEAR a mask!), and cleaned up the mess. Used Kilx, 2 coats and then Behr's best exterior gloss enamel, 2 coats. Turned out beautifully.
