Alas, not another topic about bottom paint. No, I've pretty much got that figured out. Since I purchased my boat my idea was to have a particular graphic on the side of the hull. I was wondering what kind of paints might be best suited for the task.

The man who painted the name on the stern of

my boat used Rust-oleum 8 years ago and I haven't had to have it redone. You might also look at the sign company graphics on film that are now on the market.

graphics

I went to a print/sign shop and got the name for my boat there. They had all kinds of graphics on display. I would bet that you could get what you want there. If not then maybe try a hotrod shop that does their own signage. Don

UV shield

If you choose to go with vinyl graphics make sure you use a shop that will give you ones with a UV shield. The original set I put on were non UV protected and faded, as predicted, in apx 5 yrs. It's not a problem if you use one color vinyl. If you go with a white background and if they do any sort of graphic they will use white, you can have problems with it if it doesn't have a UV shield. Not only is the UV damage from the sun an issue but if you hit them with any type of cleaner or chemical it will remove the ink/color. I just had them remake the set for me and they are now UV shielded. The colors are better and no more worries about UV damage. Now if I can just get the dock hands at transient marinas to stop pulling me into the docks and tearing the vinyl they'll last me a long time.

Vinyl Graphics

Look in the advertising sections in the back of sailing magazines to find 'signage' & graphics. I created my own lettering and blew it up to 4' in length; sent it to a graphics shop whose price was so cheap that I had them make it in deep blue with 1/4" silver drop shadow. They charged me the same price as block lettering because I provided the original art work; twenty years ago and it's still on the hull , edges slightly chipping.

I agree with the go vinyl.

Paint does not come off an when it does it is a pain. If you choose to sell your boat, being able to take-off the add-on could be a benefit. r.w.landau

google graphics

Go to google and ask for a boat vinyl graphics or boat graphics sites. They have companies, like West Marine, where you can go to, pick art work, letter designs, etc etc colors and it will design on your screen your ideas. Then you can just order them made and delivered. Or I went to a local graphic guy and he took my idea and made them. About $100 per side. 12 inches tall, 4.5 feet long. Very few people are talented enough to paint these on and make them really look good.

Thanks Danny

It is something special I had in mind, not just name graphics, my thought was vinyl might not be suitable because it may end up being somewaht large. But you should know better than I would, I'll shoot you an email later in the day.
