Hi -- do you think that it would be ok to paint my through hull depth sounder tranducer with the same Micron Extra that I will use on the rest of the bottom? Is there any better product to use? thanks for the advice. Steve

They sell special paint for they

but you can paint them with regular paint. You don't want to load them up with lots of coats.

Does it become fouled? If No. Then why paint ?

If yes . Then what can it hurt. They bed these things in all manner of oils and waxes and shoot through the hull what harm will .004 inches of paint do?

I have used the Special Paint...

...for 12 years with no problems. 4 oz lasts a lifetime. I use it on the speedo paddle wheel, also (and sucessfully).

Ross, did you mean bad thing and not bed thing? I am not being wise, just trying to understand. Unless you are in fresh water they will foul, don't your Ross? The problem is the copper in the paint can effect the depth gauge reading; therefore the need for special transducer paint. Ross, is right, if you keep it thin you are ok with copper paint.

Jim, When people install the transducers to shoot

though the hull the bed them in wax or place them in an oil cup. The transducer then operates through the oil or wax and a fiberglass hull. Applying a coat of paint will never equal that combination. Edit to add. Jim to answer your other question: my transducer doesn't foul. I sail in salt water but dock in fresh water. Salt water critters don't survive.
