I have a 1995 H-26 trailer that I would like to paint. Is there any problem doing so since it has the original, weathered finish which appears to be galvanized. I believe that would require the use of a primer. Suggestions appreciated.
Galvanized trailers last a much longer time especially in a salt environment. Paint does not. But, because it is galvanized, it is harder to paint. You must just want a different color. I would leave it alone. Usually to paint a trailer you have to grind the metal (or sandblast it) and then use a good primer (usually epoxy) then the topcoat. Follow the instructions for which ever paint company you choose.
Good choice to leave the galvanization alone. Thank you Mr. Barnicle Bill which I appreciate your imput. Look at other parts that are not galvanized on a regular basis. If emersing into salt/brackish water, wash off everytime with fresh water. In addiiton, keep bearing s greased and check tire pressure. In addition check the lug nuts from time to time but most important the fluid in the master brake cylinder.
