paint over barnacle rings

I know this is laziness on my part, but . . . I have a few barnacle rings on my boat. Can I paint over these with an ablative? I was planning on doing a barrier coat next year and didn't want to damage the gel coat by sanding or scraping too much this year.

Can't imagine why you should't paint over them. Am curious if the paint will stick to them same as the hull.

Use vinegar

to soften the rings and just wipe them off.
