Paint or Gelcoat

Is the port sidecockpit storage compartment finished with painted or gelcoat? I repaired and strengthened the existing shelf and added a second fiberglassed shelf and now need to paint or gelcoat. If the original is paint what would be a suitable brand/type of paint to use? Thanks!

Is it gel coat? I had to look it up...

Gel Coat... but being serious. You will need to give us a picture. It is probably gel coat but no way to be certain without a picture.

The shelves in my 40.5 lockers were all paint which holds up better to abrasion better than gel. Not sure what difference the type you use would make. Shelves have ‘stuff’ on them. It’s not like they have to be shiny. Any outdoor paint like house deck paint will work well.

If looking for a decent paint. Simple application. Try Rustoleum Topside white paint.

I put a shelf in the lazarette of my Ranger 29. I painted it. I don't remember what I used.
