My 28 Catalina (I just purchased) has a few old paint drops on the compass glass along with a few other marks. I know about using toothpaste, but are there any other way to clean the glass without damage it? Thanks, BOB
Bob,The lens on the compass is not glass. It's a type of plastic, so it can scratch easily. I had mine replaced a few years ago because of crazing. As I remember, it was about $100 for a new lens, new gasket, and new fluid.
Check with Sporty's Pilot shop or any other general aviation aircraft supplier and they sell plexiglass polish for the windshields. It is a mild abrasive but polishes also (great for watch crystals).
