Paint matching

Would anyone have any information on how to match the gel coat color for a 79 O'Day Day-sailor? Mine is yellow. Thanks!

I tried a gelcoat repair kit that contained various different tints that you mix in to the gelcoat paste...... came close to matching the original color. I think it was "Evercote" brand. Those kits are your best bet, since the different tubes of color allow mixing in hte various tints to reach a close match. You may not get an exact match....... but it can be close! Many marine stores (and some auto parts stores?) carry small tubes of gelcoat patch and single tubes of color tint..... but you may find that a kit like I bought is not that much more $$. I atttached a pic of the small tubes of patch, if the scratch isn't too deep, clear gel-coat patch will work to fill it in and the color of the old gel coat will show thru. At least clear will not be as obvious as white would be on hte yellow hull.

Rudy at D&R Marine "MIGHT" have a source for a matching color ,but I think our boats are too old for that (and colors fade over the years due to sun and weather...... my hull and rudder are now slightly different in color, but should have been an exact match 34 years ago!).

Gel-Coat is not listed on the web-site, but a call to Rudy may give you a dose of great advice.

I tried Testors brand paint for plastic models, the yellow is not too far off..... but is not ar hard as gel-coat!

I don't have any pics of my attempts at gelcoat repair.......... next time I try, I'l lhave to record my efforts in pictures.

Rudy at D&R no longer has gelcoat. He said the increased restrictions following 9/11 made it too hard to keep on hand.
