I've noticed some paint crazing near the port lights. Covers about a square foot in two or so places. Doesn't appear to be deep at all, just crackly lines in the paint. Can I sand these, prime and repaint over them without too much concern, or do more drastic measures need to be taken in order to avoid future trouble? This is my first boat and I've not had alot of experience in this area.

paint fix

Hi paul Most boat have gelcoat on there decks. If you have paint you could sand the cracks untill they are gone ,then clear epoxy to seal the glass then hi build primer(3) coats or untill flush then paint .If you no what type of paint you have, you should use the same .Some paint will peeloff the bottom layer.it is hard to get a good match I banged up my toe rail and had to paint the hole side frount to back and from the aluminum toe rail to nonskid deck I used interlux two part epoxy sweet stuff. If you have gelcoat its the same deal but dont use epoxy or epoxy primer interlux has the right primer .The gelcoat is hard to mach it drys darker and yellows over time ,the paint is easer .There is flatener to make the paint match the sheen better. Just sand, prime and paint. That will do as well

as being heroic and trying to do a job that lasts forever. If in two years you need to do it again it won't be a biggie.
