Thanks Rich

(Flax) Packing goes in the stuffing box. According the reference from on the Hunter website I'll need 3/16" packing. Mine overheated when my engine mounts came loose causing the transmission to to become mis-aligned and the shaft to oscillate too much. This loosened the bronze stuffing box and water started coming in. When I realigned the engine and re-tightened the stuffing box the water slowed to the normal drip rate. Since I'm leaving for a two week trip up the coast of Maine soon I wanted to make sure I had spares on-board.

Don't forget a pick

3/16 is correct, and that's a 1" shaft. West Marine sells a pick for removing the old packing. Looks like the business end of a cork screw on a flexible shaft with a tee handle. You screw it into the old packing and pull. Does a good job. Make sure you get all the old packing out.
