Pacific Voyagers just left SF Bay area, traveling south

I just received notice that we are about to host Six traditional Polynesian ocean going canoes + 2 huge escorts to our harbor in Dana Point tomorrow, Aug. 20. When I looked up the link, I see that they have left San Francisco Bay area, traveling south and after Dana Point, they will again go north a bit to Cabrillo (Old School Neil) and then from there going past us again to San Diego where they will be for a while. We are doing a Challenged America race tomorrow so I hope their huge presence won't be an issue :). I can't wait to see these boat and the very interesting folks on them!! So, heads up to all of us on the west coast!!

Thanks for this info, LuzSD. It's actually fascinating to think about how the Polynesians sailed those huge distances way back then and what they're doing now. And as for their using this trip to publicize the acidification of the oceans - even if we don't care about anybody else, as sailors that's something that we should car about even if it's entirely out of pure selfishness.

Hope they brought their windbreakers, I came down from SF last year at this time and darn near froze at night. Did they get past Pt. Conception yet? Somehow it always manages to blow up a gale every time I get near it.
Looked at their site again, never mind, hope they don't get that upset everytime they see an oil platform, there's lots ahead of them.

Their concern about the oil derek are not unfounded. They are a concern of every Californian with half a brain.

I took my dad to Paradise Cove after work and their boats are beautiful. They are larger that I imagined. Their anchor and running lights are a bright blue-green.
I would love to catch them out on the Santa Monica Bay tomorrow but I have to go to Tehachapi. The photos of them with sails up would be incredible.
