Would love to hear about holding tanks. I know there use to be a bladder under the aft berth. Mine was upgraded to plastic and placed behind the head in the cockpit storage lazarette... but at 9 gallons it is too small and want to upgrade. Dont want to loose too much storage space.

Where and how large?

Thanks!

NY, I have a similar design to yours (34-II) and there is really no other option for the tank. This is the problem with most holding tanks on smaller vessels. If you do primarily coastal sailing, you at least have access to facilities with pumpouts. Good luck and good sailing, Ron

I intend to make the same change to my P36-2. Eliminate the bladder and old hoses and select a holding tank size/shape that will fit in the lazarette, while still allowing for access and storage. Raritan and Ronco have numerous different sizes and shapes. If I conclude that the liner is not strong enough to support the holding tank - I may have to cut out the floor liner to accomodate the shape of the tank, build a strong marine ply box and shelf that gets recessed and glassed to both the hull and the liner, with straps over the top to secure the tank. Then hoses, valves, a macerator pump & an additional through-hull for offshore waste discharge. Don Casey has a good paper describing various design approaches > www.boatus.com/boattech/casey/13.htm
