On the P30, the fiberglass 'rudder tube' is continuous from the bottom of the hull all the way to the top of the cockpit sole. If this 'tube' is still intact there should be NO water getting into the boat.
1. If the water is coming in from any location
between the hull and the cockpit sole ... that tube is most likely damaged and may have 'worn through' by abrasion. Easy to repair ... but the space around the rudder tube is extremely cramped.
2. If the water is only coming up through the rudder stock area and is only spilling into the cockpit, then the bearings (Delrin --- available from D&R Marine
www.drmarine.com) should be replaced to 'tighten up the gaps' inside that fiberglass tube.
Other.
3. If there is water coming in between the hull and the cockpit sole and its NOT the fiberglass rudder tube .... a higher probability is a crack, etc. in one of the cockpit fiberglass 'drain tubes' ..... which should have been cut out & removed and had a proper 'through hull & shut off valve' put in place. A next-to-impossible job because of the very small space in which to work. ..... And if one of these 'drain tubes' proves to be 'the leaker' ... also cut out that fiberglass drain tube for the galley sink and install a proper through-hull and shut off valve there too!!!!!!!!
