The crack in the hull is repaired, hatch cover installed in the quarterberth where the access hole was cut. Saturday AM, reload the boat, lunch at the tiki bar to rest, then launch. Great conditions, sunny, 10-15knts I guess. We have 3 jibs, started with small one first,(comes back as far as the mast). I was surprised at how much better the ride was in choppy river (lots powerboaters). I was also surprised at how much more work the tiller is, felt like you had to pull a lot harder to get the boat to turn. , I know, more weight to move around. We went out into the Bay. local sailing center (where we took lessons) was running races. 3 different courses set up, we visited and watched them all. Then we anchored at Hart-Miller. I went overboard, felt around on the centerboard (all smooth but sure does bang when the boat rocks).
Very close friends arrive on their center console fishing boat , (1 couple ) we raft up pass pretzels and stories back and forth, this was another first for us. Life is good!.
For 15 minutes.
Some guy is letting his wife drive around the anchorage (30ft Trojan). She comes across my bow 15-20 off the boat, cuts my anchor line. He was standing in the cabin with her hollering as he went by, then turns to face me, throws up his arms, yells " I told her we were too close".
We immediately start drifting towards a 28-32 Catalina so my friend goes on alert dealing with this while I`m watching the Trojan in a wide circle, comes up behind us, the guy jumps overboard, swims to our boat. He`s coming up the ladder, sees me getting paper and pen out of the cabin, Says "write down your phone number for me, I have another anchor at home I`ll give it to you."
"What are you gonna do, swim back to your boat with this note in your pocket??"
"Oh... yeah...right."
He went back to his boat ,we got numbers exchanged but I didn`t think then to get boat registr. #, we are now busy getting away from the other sailboat.
Next day , I call the number, of course no answer. But...The answer message on his phone goes something like this : "this is Billy Dumbass of xyz company. leave a message, I`ll get back to you. Beep..."The mailbox is full" BEEP.
I tracked down XYZ company, basically same industry I`m in , about 5-8 miles from my work location, I`ll be talking to them tomorrow. Already have price quotes for my replacement stuff.
If they ever dredge the beach at Hart Miller, they will suck some steel anchors and chain through those dredges ,I`ll bet.

Hello Dave,

Welcome to the anchorage! Glad all ended without bodily injury. Enjoy the big boat and put this experience into your list of stories to tell at the next raft-up.

1 irony here, As our friends approached ,Ann is digging out the shiny new fenders.." Do you want this old blue out"? " No, I`m gonna use it for an anchor buoy some day" LOL !
