Oximoron!

Holiday greetings from Pennsylvania where the weather is clear and cold! Temperature is about 14 F with a wind chill that can make one's fingers feel like icepickles!

I just finished loading the Toyota for a little kayaking and painting trip. We are headed for a warmer clime for a short vacation. I'm sure numerous people who see us driving on the Interstate highways will get a smile out of our appearance. Notice the brand of kayak we own.......Liquidlogic. Thus, the title of my post: Oximoron. (As the old saying goes......Well, you're half right.)

After living on Vanc island I'd take snow and blue skies, over day after day of rain and clouds, any day. Winters made me almost suicidal. That said, the coast has it's benefits. There are not many keelboat iceboats available ;)

hehe That is not even close to cold.

Best part about a kayak is they also make good toboggans ;)
(1) Spent 10 winters in Florida, so pardon my definition of cold. (2) Bought our granddaughter a kayak at Cabela's last summer and promised we could use it in the snow too. I'm sure there will still be snow when we return to PA.

I laugh because my wife and I were talking about how people like to compare how cold it is or how hot...
"you think that's cold ? When I was a kid...."

It's all about what you are used to.
I found Cambodia hot but not unbearably so. But if I had gone there right after a midwestern winter, I would have been suffering. On the flipside, when I spent a winter in the arctic working on an ice road, my neighbours thought I was nuts walking around with a longsleeve sweatshirt at -10C/14F.

The whole "driving with a kayak", is awesome. I've had a few times when people figured I was nuts.
Skis on the roof in June for example. Others not realizing that there is still snow at helicopter ski altitudes, or that you are moving and they don't fit in the car. hehe. I love the reactions that stuff can cause. :D
Most likely they truly think there is "liquid logic" involved. hehe

Happy new year to everyone !

Love the spirit! I relocated snow today at around 14F. Got a bit sweaty. Had to peel off a layer or so.
Tobogganing is terrifying. Doing so in a kayak would be worse. Give me a pair of 225 cm Head 360's or a flexible Flyer any day. At least I know how to bail out.
What is cold?

Enjoy yourself! -1F this balmy morning in Hamlin, NY. West of me has 6 feet of new snow (Erie, Pa, Buffalo, NY) then in Oswego County at the East end 10 feet of snow and -7F also.

Sorry, rumor has it that it got below -20 F back home, but I wouldn't know, I'm in Puebla Mexico. It is cold here, upper 60's, I know because the locals are wearing parkas. We are pretty close to the Sun at around 7000' and my cheeks are feeling a little rosy:ass:

[QUOTE="jssailem, post: 1425615, member: 127717" It has been a few years since I have seen a pair of skis longer than 210. Real old school down hill skis.[/QUOTE]
I was skiing those about the last time I took a toboggan ride. A lot of years ago. But at least two tobogganers were taken off the hill on backboards. I haven't been on one since. I rent skis now.
