Overheating MD6A??

Three times in the last two weeks, our engine has unexpectedly overheated after a period of 5-6 hours continuous and troublefree running. There appears to be no restrictions to the seawater inlet, the impellor pump seems fine and I've boiled-up the thermostat at that seems to be working OK too. Any ideas/suggestions?

I just had a related experience. My solution was to remove the thermostate housing and located that the "small" inlet was partially blocked. Cleaned that out. Removed the impeller and backwashed. My thermostate was also very stiff. Fixed and reassembled...also used some liquid gasket along with the regular material. Let that set up over night. Next day started up and have excellent water flow out of exhaust.
Amazing what a little restriction can do.

Good luck

Hi Bob

Clogged arteries! Check teh manifold as this is the usual cause. 4 x
long bolts but be careful with the gasket as tehy cost a fortune (£50).
Take manifold off and clear all clogging-up.

Steve's suggestion worked for my MD6A as well.
