I'll be quick. My Volvo Penta Diesel (approx. 18hp) in my 1988 First 285 was beeping a long tone while I was trying to run it and I was told it either needed oil due to low oil pressure, or that it needed antifreeze to keep it from overheating. I'm not sure what kind of oil or antifreeze I may need for this engine. I am engine illiterate unfortunately so I'm reluctant to take care of this without a little guidance first. Just had the transmission replaced in case that information is pertinent.

While I'm at it, if anyone has any tips on upkeep that I should do everytime I take it out, I'm all ears.

Thanks for your help in advance, trying to take care of this so I can sail on Sunday.

No manual? Generally the beeping sound is an overheating issue. Have you put coolant into the reservoir? I also assume you checked oil level just in case. FYI if you don't have a manual I'd go online it'll give you a lot of answers to your questions. FYI I've had three volvos including my current D2-55 and they've all used 30wt diesel oil for engine and tranny

Thanks, I'll check on the 30wt, do you recall what type of coolant you used?
